They lied to us

about how it feels to grow old

They lied to us

They lied to us

about how it feels to grow old

about how you’ll understand better

about how you’ll wish you had done things

or hadn’t done things

About how life shrinks

They lied to us

about the certainty of it all

about losing chances

about losing strength

losing creativity

They lied to us

and as we get angry

they don’t understand

Because they lied to us

but more importantly

they lied to themselves

Because others lied to them

just as some others lied to those

and some others lied to those

And it would be too shattering

too painful

too unbearable

to face your own lies

to let go of this pretence

They lied to us

but we believed them

We lied to ourselves

about who really knows the Truth

They lied to us

and we listened

and we lied to ourselves

But the truth is

we are strong enough

to bear the Truth

because the truth is

you don’t have to be strong

to face the Truth

you just need to be soft

and gentle

and fluid

Be like water

and let it all go
