The In-Between Period
Journaling prompts {from February 9th 2024}
Tonight brings us a new moon and to be honest, I’m still feeling the energy of last week’s Imbolc. So I’ve decided to combine both and create a few journaling prompts for this period.
Some people label the lower levels of energy in winter as “seasonal depression” which is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard (and the competition is fierce, mind you). It is completely logical and understandable that on days with less sunlight and colder temperatures and when a lot of nature is resting, many people have less energy and motivation.
Late autumn and early winter are times for rest.
During Imbolc (which falls midway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox), energies slowly - very slowly - begin to awaken.
During this time, it is always good to remember that this awakening should never be forced. You are part of nature. Trust that you will have all the necessary energy when you need it, and don't rush yourself.
Journaling prompts
- Observe the signs of nature awakening around you. How does the changing season manifest in your environment? How does it affect you?
- Reflect on aspects of your life that may benefit from a fresh start. What habits or small changes can help you make room for growth?
- Reflect on the creative energies within you. What creative projects or ideas do you want to bring into the world this season? How can you nurture and stimulate your creativity?
- Consider any metaphorical "winter" in your life. In which areas of your life do you notice stagnation or procrastination and in which ones do you feel you need to give yourself more time?
- This in-between period can be difficult because we tend to prefer black-and-white notions so we may prefer to be completely still or in constant activity. Reflect on your relationship with patience and trust. How can you honour exactly where you are right now? How can you support yourself at this time?
The In Between
Pretty soon the maple sap will flow,
the ice will melt,
and the delicate spring buds will emerge.
Until then we exist in the in between,
almost ready,
but not quite.
All in its own perfect timing.
Life is like that.
The stillness is a part of the expansion.
Pregnant with anticipation.
We get a taste
of the light and the warmth
but if the sap runs too early,
it could freeze.
If the buds emerge too soon,
they could be destroyed.
You too could be left bare of the medicine
they are meant to offer
if you push too soon.
This is the in between
A liminal delicate time,
To gather the energy of the world,
Readying ourselves to emerge.

See you soon ✨
